Saints! Christ is Risen!
Every year, I play SM Lockridge’s “That’s My King” sermon on while I’m preparing Easter dinner for my family.
Folk bustle in and out of the kitchen before and after church, and of course, my husband is naughtily opening the oven and letting the heat escape from my pineapple ham. I try really hard not to chase him out, bless him!
I like to listen to the whole sermon, not just the now-famous clip, so I’ve posted it here for you to enjoy in context - especially how our King wants to move us in prayer from Complaint Avenue to Thanksgiving Blvd.
Magnifying Christ—his words and deeds—is an essential component of Christian endurance. There is something about magnifying the name of Christ that not only dims challenging circumstances but also becomes a weapon in our mouths when we proclaim his character, goodness, and deeds.
Just look at how the people of God conquer Satan’s horrific persecutions in the Book of Revelation:
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say,
The salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Christ
have now come,
because the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them
before our God day and night,
has been thrown down. They conquered him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
for they did not love their lives
to the point of death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens,
and you who dwell in them!
Woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has come down to you
with great fury,
because he knows his time is short.
Throughout history, the beleaguered people of God have received hope and weaponized their praise… that’s what Dr. Lockridge does in this sermon.
Have a listen and weaponize your praise today; let it gird up your loins and do battle in heaven, on earth, and in your heart.
Anyone who comes near my kitchen will hear Dr. Lockridge proclaim these now-famous words over and over again, words that the persevering Church can’t hear enough …
You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hand.
You can't out live Him and You can't live without Him.
Well, the Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him.
Pilate couldn't find any fault in Him.
The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree.
Herod couldn't kill Him.
Death couldn't handle Him and the grave couldn't hold Him.
